ABOUT ME
I have always been interested in drawing and painting but it is only in later life that I have begun to build a career as an artist. Despite an aptitude for art whilst at school I was persuaded by my parents to take a 'safer' career option. So I became a teacher, a 30 year long career which in fact I loved. I continued to paint as a hobby but raising children and with increased responsibility at work, my artistic efforts were sidelined.
Retirement has given me the opportunity to rekindle my interest and restore my skills as an artist. I am London based so well placed to visit many exciting galleries for inspiration.
I sought out a recommended local art teacher Gabriela Shutz ( MA Central St.Martins College of Art). Gabriela helped me to develop my skills with drawing, mark making, painting and composition. She recently won the Cass Art Prize so I was in good hands !
After 3 or 4 years under her tutorage my confidence as an artist was restored but I still felt a lack of direction.
I received online advice from Peter Stanyer (Royal College of Art) who helped me to crystalize my priorities and set me on a path to explore the natural world artistically. I quickly found that I loved to experiment with the effects that different paint media had on each other especially when thinned and how the patterns produced could inform my art projects.
